The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. It is currently made up of 193 Member States and its headquarters is located in New York City. The Secretariat carries out the day-to-day work of the United Nations. It also administers peacekeeping operations, delivers humanitarian assistance, conducts disarmament efforts, and promotes human rights.

The Economic and Social Council is the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues and for formulating policy recommendations addressed to Member States and the United Nations system. The Trusteeship Council was established to ensure that trust territories were administered in the best interests of their inhabitants and of international peace and security.

The United Nations plays a crucial role in addressing global challenges such as climate change, conflict resolution, poverty alleviation, and humanitarian aid. Through its various agencies, programs, and funds, the United Nations works to improve the lives of people around the world and to promote sustainable development.
